PHILIP FRIEDLAN, JD, MBA
Philip Friedlan, JD, MBA has been a lawyer and tax practitioner for many years. He has worked with Royal Trust, Arthur Andersen, and Price Waterhouse. In private practice since 1989, Friedlan Law provides tax and legal advice to small and medium businesses, accounting firms, individuals, and financial planning firms. His practice includes corporate and personal tax planning and estate planning, as well as the legal implementation of tax and estate plans.
Phil received his law degrees from the University of Toronto and McGill University. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration from York University and a Bachelor of Science from McGill University. Phil is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
A well respected authority on tax and legal issues, Phil has written and spoken widely on tax and related legal topics for various organizations including the Canadian Tax Foundation and is a frequent contributor to Tax for the Owner-Manager. ADAM FRIEDLAN, JD, LLM
Adam Friedlan, JD, LLM, is a tax and estate planning lawyer, with a unique background in business and finance as well as in law. His areas of practice include corporate and personal tax planning and estate planning, implementation of tax and estate plans, preparation of wills and powers of attorney, and conducting correspondence with the CRA on behalf of clients including the drafting of notices of objection.
Adam gained extensive experience as a research assistant for three professors, two at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law and one at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His research focused on corporate and securities law and regulation, commercial and consumer law, and public pension finance.
At the University of Chicago, Adam was a Chicago Careers in Business Fellow and completed coursework in accounting and corporate finance. Adam was Assistant Editor of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review.
Adam is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, New York University and the University of Chicago and has completed the In-depth Tax Course and the In-depth HST/GST Course conducted by CPA Canada. He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Adam is a regular contributor to Tax for the Owner Manager, has written for Tax Topics and contributed papers to the Ontario Tax Conference of the Canadian Tax Foundation.
